Neil Baum, MD

Neil Baum, MD, a renowned urologist from New Orleans, has over 35 years of experience in healthcare, encompassing practicing medicine, academic positions, and business aspects of medical practice management.  In his work with The Coker Group, Dr. Baum uses his real world experience to work with practices in selecting and implementing information technology, attaining efficiencies in practice operations, motivating staff and improving performance, marketing of the practice and its services, and in numerous other areas.

Dr. Baum is an active staff member and practicing urologist at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans, LA, Memorial Medical Center in New Orleans, LA, and East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, LA.  In addition, Dr. Baum remains active in academics as an Associate Clinical Professor of Urology at Tulane Medical School and at Louisiana State University Medical School, both in New Orleans, LA.

An enthusiastic educator, Dr. Baum regularly speaks to practices, hospitals, and pharmaceutical and medical manufacturing companies on practice management, guerilla marketing and practice promotion, motivation, and improving communications between physicians and patients. His series of instructional videos for health care professionals covers a wide range of topics, including marketing the medical practice, employee relations, and physician referrals.  Dr. Baum provides his audiences with high content material that any practice can easily and inexpensively implement into his\her\their practice.  Dr. Baum also provides humor and special effects that will make the presentation “magical” to all who attend.

He is also active in publishing efforts, having written five books and over 115 articles for various publications and given over 160 presentations across the country. His books include Marketing Your Clinical Practice-Ethically, Effectively and Economically; Take Charge of Your Medical Practice - Practical Practice Management for the Managed Care Market; Urology Office Manual; Letters for the Health Care Profession; and Impotence – It’s Reversible.  Dr. Baum is the editor of Uro-Care – Managed Care for the Urologist, and is on the editorial board of Postgraduate Medicine, Medical Office Biller, Cost & Quality, Physician's Payment Update, Physician's Marketing & Management, Medical Aspects of Human Sexuality, Options in Medicine, Clinical Geriatrics, Physicians Advisory, Resident & Staff Physician, Internal Medicine World Report, and Clinical Geriatrics. He is also a contributing writer for American Medical News, Health and Fitness, Times-Picayune, Sports Life, Sam's Buyline, and Pharmaceutical Representative. His articles cover a broad spectrum of topics, from practice management and marketing to technology initiatives.

Dr. Baum received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin and completed medical school at Ohio State University. He performed his internship at UCLA School of Medicine and his residency at Baylor College of Medicine and the University of California at Los Angeles, Harbor General.

He is a member of the American Urologic Association where he is active in the Southeastern Section, the American Fertility Society, the Orleans Parish Medical Society, the Urodynamic Society, and the Louisiana State Medical Society.
